resources a library can provide. We
are dedicated to improving the Hays Public Library's
services and equipment for the benefit of the whole
community. We believe that our library is an
important institution which improves the quality of
life in Hays.
Through membership dues and fund raising efforts,
the Friends have raised private monies to help
acquire books, video tapes, big screen TV's,
microfilm readers, computers, printers, VCR's, and
special speakers.
In addition, the Friends regularly host Gallery Walk receptions at the library, sponsor
prizes and refreshments for the Summer Reading Program,
organize quarterly book sales for the community, and
publish The Bookmark newsletter for library
patrons.
Joining the Friends is a great way to show your
appreciation for the wide range of services and
programs our library provides us in Hays!
Why Join?
Pre-Sales
Friends are invited to library book sales a day
early, allowing first selection of best sellers,
rare books, recordings, discarded furniture, and
other treasures.
Volunteer Opportunities
We're a growing group! There are many ways to get
involved, help the library, and meet other Friends.
A Good Deed
The Hays Public Library is our library. Joining as a Friend helps
ensure its continued health and strength. It's the right thing to do!
Memorial Books
If you wish to donate a book to the library in memory of a friend
or family member, please consider the following options:
- You may make a cash donation to the library with a request
that a certain book or type of book be purchased.
- You may make an unrestricted cash donation to the library.
- You may donate a book to the library. However, if the library
already owns a copy of the donated book, there is no guarantee
that a second copy will be added to the collection.
When a book is purchased or accepted as a memorial, a bookplate is inserted into
the front cover with the name of the honored individual. Please
ask a library staff member for a "Memorial Books" form to fill out.
Volunteer Needs
There are many books left over from our book sales that we
cannot seem to sell in Hays but which a book store might
like to purchase. These are books in good condition that
are not library discards. If you are traveling to another
location that has a bookstore that buys used books, please
consider taking a box of our leftovers with you to sell for
whatever the store will offer. The money would then be
given to the Friends. The Friends would make money, the
library would have more storage space, and you would have
the fun of exploring a used bookstore and doing a good
deed. Definitely a WIN-WIN situation! Call Eric at the
library (625-9014) if you want to pick up a box of books.
