Monopoly Tournament

January 21st – beginning at 10am
This will be an International MONOPOLYYA sanctioned tournament. No “Momma’s Rules” here. We go by the official rules which accompany the game. Prizes will be given to 1st and 2nd place finishers. Oh yeah, YA staff will participate in this, so don’t expect to win. Brandon’s all-time record is 1293–0 and Scott’s record is 0-1292-1! (We're not sure how you get a draw in Monopoly, but he claims it.) Games begin at 10 AM.


Guitar Hero Night

February 12th – 6:30-9pm

Feed the punk rocker in your soul by attending the Guitar Hero Tournament. Everyone, skilled or amateur, will have a great time. There will be prizes for all ability levels as well as a champion of champions round.


Brandon's Valentine Cooking Show

February 14th – 2pm
Come make Valentine's snacks to take and enjoy under Brandon's expert tutelage.


Simpsons Marathon

February 15th – 9am-5pm
Everyone loves the Simpsons - don't miss out!


Chess Tournament

February 18th – beginning at 10am
Due to popular demand, we will be hosting the first YA chess tournament on February 18th. Matches will begin at 10am and run until the tournament is completed.


Family Video Game Night

February 26th
All ages are welcome for this event. Teach your parents to play Dance Dance Revolution or come bowl on the Wii with your Grandma. Preference will be given to families in regards to playing time. We will have snacks and there will be door prizes.


Teen Tech Week

March 2nd-8th

Spring Break

March 17th-21st
We will begin the week with St. Patrick’s Day Activities. Wear green! Come in throughout the week to completely forget about school, which is the point of Spring Break! It will definitely be worth it!


3rd Annual Edible Books Competition

April 5th
A teen category has been added to this popular adult program. Most Creative and Most Technical entries will win a prize. All you have to do is to cook up some food that represents literature. Look online for some groovy ideas, and check out pictures of previous entries in the HPL Photo Galleries.

April 17th
We have another awesome top-secret activity planned to promote teen lit!


Video Game Extravaganza 3

April 21st
As always this includes Pizza Rolls and Video Games. It has become a tradition in the YA and what can be better than this winning combination?


Summer Reading Program Kickoff Party

May 22nd
Celebrate the last day of school and the beginning of summer. YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET!


Teen Advisory Board

The Teen Advisory Board is a group of teens who help plan activities and choose materials for the YA Department. If you are interested in being a member, contact the Young Adult Department at the Hays Public Library (785-625-9014).
